Biography
Bass player since 1985, a Brazilian originally living in Santos, Brazil, he began his career playing in a heavy metal band called Warkings. After one year, he joined the blues band Druidas with who he stayed for one year as well, playing in several events in Baixada Santista.
Between 1987 and 1988 he joined the instrumental rock band Mr. Green, where he played for 5 years, including a considerable number of concerts and an album recorded in 1990. During this period, he took part of some jingles recordings, played at night clubs in Santos, and recorded with several Brazilian singers including Eduardo Dusek.
In July 2004 he left Mr. Green to dedicate himself to the band Santa Claus (now extinct) and to his solo career, performing on both workshops and shows throughout Brazil. As an option of life, he began to invest on his teacher career instead of joining singers and bands or playing in clubs, being today one of the main teachers of Conservatório Souza Lima, in São Paulo, Brazil.
Zuzo recorded in 1996 a video master class entitled "Slap & Two-hands Rock", one of the best sellers of its style according to the MPO label, whose catalogue includes more than 80 titles.
In 1997 Zuzo released his first independent solo CD called “Express”, where besides writing all compositions he played other instruments like all keyboards (and basses, of course). After the ideas that came from playing the two hands simultaneously on a double neck bass, he produced a CD focused on the rock guitar universe, including guests like guitarists Eduardo Ardanuy (Dr. Sin) , Kiko Loureiro (Angra), Frank Solari, Alexandre Blanc, Mauro Hector and Mello Junior, plus drummer Pablo Silva. Zuzo performed in workshops and shows to promote this CD with his band at the time that included Pablo Silva (drums), Daniel Lima (keyboards), Alexandre Blanc and Mauro Hector (guitars).
At the end of 1999, Zuzo started to write the songs for his second CD, "Raízes x Influências" (“Roots x Influences”), and released it in November 2000 with a totally different purpose when compared to the previous CD. It was a conceptual CD, promoting the interaction between the Brazilian and the Arabian music with funk, blues, jazz and country, and englobing the acoustic and percussive universes. Zuzo played unusual instruments and all pianos on the album, besides acoustic guitar and even drums on one track, besides writing and producing all tracks. The CD included several musicians such as Robertinho Silva (percussion), Duda Neves, Alexandre Reis, Plínio Romero and Pablo Silva (drums), David Richards (sax), Alexandre Blanc and Mauro Hector (acoustic guitars), and others. In 2002, he recorded 2 video master classes for the Aprenda Música label, teaching rhythm and solo playing.
Zuzo is a self-taught musician and likes to listen and play all styles without restrictions. Among some of his influences are Steve Morse and the Dixie Dregs, Albert Lee, Tower of Power, Lenine, Charlie Parker, Michael Manring, Bela Bartok, Miles Davis, etc.
The bass player has just released his 3rd solo CD, "Prato da Casa", which includes only Zuzo’s bass guitar and vocals and Pablo Silva’s drums.
