Ipê (Tabebuia serratifolia)

Ipê

Very hard and dense wood, Ipê is extremely stable and stiff. Its weight averages 1,100 Kg/m³. It has a fine texture, with a color ranging from deep purplish red to very dark brown, with sometimes a greenish look. It is the choice of fingerboard and neck laminations. If weight is not a concern, a full Ipê neck can be built. Due to its density, it's a very difficult wood to work with, thus extreme care must be taken to achieve a good result. Its use on necks and fingerboards deliver a high sustain and a fast attack sound, with very focused low and mids and clear highs.
