Jatobá (Hymenaea courbaril)

Jatobá

Very hard and dense wood, Jatobá is a very stable and resonant wood. It is not a very stiff wood, and is used for bodies, basically for the center part. It is beautifully stripped, ranging from salmon red to orange-brown, usually with dark streaks. Its weight averages 910 Kg/m³, and is a difficult wood to work, due to its density. Its use on body cores lends the instrument a very resonant, deep sound, with uniform balance.
